Vardenafil (Levitra) is a medicine for treating erectile dysfunction. Compared to sildenafil, it is a selective and effective treatment for challenging cases. Erectile dysfunction occurs when you can’t get or maintain a firm enough erection for sexual intercourse.
Working
Vardenafil is a phosphodiesterase-5 enzyme (PDE-5) inhibitor. It functions by blocking PDE-5, a protein in your body that usually stops an erection from occurring. By blocking PDE-5, Vardenafil makes it possible for a man to get an erection. This happens when certain muscles in the penis relax, which lets blood flow into the penis.
In simpler terms, Vardenafil works by relaxing the blood vessels in your penis, allowing blood to flow in when you’re sexually aroused. This medication only helps you get an erection if you’re sexually stimulated, so it’s taken as needed.
Dosage
The usual starting dose is 10 mg taken orally about 1 hour before sexual activity. Vardenafil comes as a tablet and an ODT.
